Prepress is the term used for referring to procedures and processes taking place between procurement of the written manuscript (initial stages of publishing) and original artwork. The following are processes related to prepress: typesetting, copyediting, markup, proofreading, page layout, screening, retouching, or page assembly, imposition, trapping, separation, and platemaking. However, certain modern publishing companies consider tasks associated with content generation and/or refinement as graphic design while others combine prepress production and graphic design into desktop publishing. Thus, the workflow of prepress processes vary depending on several factors such as printing process, final product(newspapers, books)and implementation of prepress technologies.
