The batteries in your golf cart fall into the category of “antique” as far as electrical storage technology is concerned. These are typically lead-acid batteries, the same type you have under the hood of your gas guzzler, and have been the standard for automotive and golf cart use for decades. But as the nation (and world) look towards electric cars as the future of transportation, the same new technology that may power former gas-drinking cars will also allow golf car batteries to have extended range and power. Current limits of 40 to 50 miles per charge on a typical golf cart may get a boost to 100 or 150 miles per charge on lightweight golf carts with next-generation batteries.
