Because of the shortened length of time to complete a second degree and brighter job prospects in the health care sector, more and more non-nursing degree holders are participating in Accelerated Nursing Degree programs. According to a survey by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, there were 11,018 students enrolled in accelerated nursing degree programs in 2008, up from 9,938 in 2007. The number of graduates also increased from 5,881 in 2007 to 6,870 in 2008. The number of students in accelerated master’s degree nursing programs also increased in 2008 to 4,577 from 4,303 in 2007. There were 1,177 MSN graduates in 2008, up from 1,032 MSN graduates in 2007.
