Don’t be blind sighted by the activeness seen in your dog when it was young. The most agile and swift dogs suffer from sluggish movements when they grow older as their bones and muscles start getting affected with age. Their joints stiffen up and they are unable to perform the usual activities that they could with the same speed. As dogs realize this inability they may also be mentally affected. Therefore, the best thing a dog owner can do in such a situation is provide his pet with  orthopedic dog beds so that it can at least sleep and rest in comfort.
