I think there used to be something called a vanity domain however I don’t think that is the case anymore.  Typically a vanity domain meant only your name was in the domain such as John.com. Now if you want to obtain a domain at a great price you might as well get a discount and use a godaddy coupon for the best price.

Now a vanity domain means that you simply have to your name in the domain however you can have other words. That definition of vanity had to be expanded because there are only so many domains to be had with proper names or surf names. Therefore the domain John-is-the-man.com is now considered a vanity domain. Which makes perfect sense. There are only so many domains to be had and if a domain has a person’s name or a company name or any other descriptive name it might as well be considered a vanity domain.
